Carl Paladino, routed in 2010, said Monday he’s “51 percent” sure he’ll run for governor in 2018.

Paladino, the outspoken Buffalo conservative, said on Fox News he’s been thinking about running every day lately. Though he said it’s too early to say he’s reached a conclusion, Paladino told host Neil Cavuto he’s leaning toward running again.

“I have every intention, right now, of running for governor in the state of New York,” Paladino told Cavuto.

The exchange took place in the last minute of a 4:44 segment that was primarily about Paladino contending that Donald Trump could carry New York in a presidential election.

Paladino garnered just 33 percent of the vote in 2010, crushed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who scored 63 percent. Some Republicans complained afterward that Paladino cost the party down-ballot contests.

Rob Astorino, the GOP’s 2014 candidate, and Rep. Chris Gibson (R-Kinderhook) have been seen as leading potential 2018 Republican candidates at this point.
