Assemb. Chad Lupinacci on Friday filed to create a fundraising committee to potentially run for a congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington), an aide said Friday.
Lupinacci (R-Huntington Station) created the “Lupinacci for Congress” committee, registered with the Federal Election Commission. He becomes the latest Republican to take steps to become the party’s candidate, joining state Sen. Jack Martins (R-Old Westbury) and David Gurfein, a retired Marine from Manhasset.

So far, six Republicans and 10 Democrats have been mentioned by party leaders and insiders as potential candidates. Party primaries, if there is more than one candidate still standing for each side, would be held in June.
