BACKGROUND:
- Lavine, 75, of Glen Cove, is running for reelection to the Assembly seat that he has held for 18 years.
- He also is running on the Working Families Party.
- He is chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and is president of the New York chapter of the National of Jewish Legislators and also a member of its national board.
- He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison for his undergraduate degree and New York Law School for his law degree.
ISSUES:
- A top priority for Lavine is to secure women’s rights and access to reproductive health care by passing the New York State Equal Rights Amendment a second time in 2023 so that it goes to the voters in 2024 in a referendum.
- Lavine wants to stimulate economic growth through investments in scientific research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory and Northwell Health.
- He also wants the state to invest in protecting Long Island’s aquifer and to reduce carbon emissions to protect the environment.
