Charles Lavine announces endorsements in Nassau executive race

Assemb. Charles Lavine, a Democratic candidate for Nassau County executive, picked up new endorsements Wednesday, including those of nearly two dozen current and former Albany lawmakers.
Lavine (D-Glen Cove) announced a slate of 36 endorsements including Deputy Assembly Speaker Earlene Hooper (D-Hempstead), Assemb. Anthony D’Urso (D-Great Neck) and former Assembly members Michelle Schimel and Harvey Weisenberg.
“It is clear that our progressive message of reform and our willingness to challenge Nassau County’s corrupt leadership is resonating with voters and Democratic leaders throughout our state and our community,” Lavine said in a statement.
Former Rep. Lester Wolff, who left office in 1981, said Lavine “has the experience to root out fraud and cronyism in Nassau County government, and the guts to stand up for Nassau families and speak out against the cruel Trump agenda.”
Lavine also received the backing of State Senator Liz Krueger (D-NY), Diane Yatauro, former presiding officer of the Nassau Legislature and Bayville Trustee John Taylor.
Lavine faces a Democratic primary against Legis. Laura Curran (D-Baldwin), who has the backing of the Nassau Democratic Party, and County Comptroller George Maragos.
