New Yorkers for a Balanced Albany, a pro-charter-school campaign committee, received just two donations in the last six months. But, with donations like these, maybe only two are needed.

Hedge fund managers Paul Singer and Daniel Loeb each gave the group $1 million, according to the state Board of Elections.

Loeb also gave Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo $25,000. Singer has backed the governor in the past but hasn't given recently.

The campaign committee was very active last year, often backing Republican Senate candidates and spending around $4 million in the final weeks of the election. Senate Democrats were generously backed by teachers' unions.
