Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo reported $183,155 in adjusted gross income last year, according to his federal tax return, which he released Tuesday.
The governor's federal tax bill was $32,914 and his state amount was $13,815. He overpaid his combined taxes by $19,491 and will take about half of it as a refund and use the rest to pay this year's taxes in advance.
Cuomo listed his residence as Mount Kisco in Westchester County, where he lives in the home owned by his girlfriend, Sandra Lee. Unlike last year, he owed no New York City income taxes because he did not meet the threshold of spending 183 days in the city, where Lee has an apartment, the governor's office said.
In addition to his salary of $168,848, he earned a net $65,918 from investments, which are in a blind trust run by AMG National Trust Bank, based in Englewood, Colo.
Cuomo claimed two charitable donations, totaling $18,950. One was the $8,950 of wages that he gave back to New York State as a voluntary pay cut. Cuomo paid taxes on those earnings, but by giving it back, he reduced his taxable income.
The other donation was $10,000 to Help USA, a New York City nonprofit that aids the homeless.
The governor reported paying a tax preparation fee of $8,250 to PricewaterhouseCoopers.
His lieutenant governor, Robert Duffy, had a lucky day at the Saratoga Racetrack last year, reporting a net $2,628 gambling profit from betting on horses on his income taxes. Duffy filed jointly with his wife, Barbara, wages of $153,823 and a $182,950 pension. The income was primarily the lieutenant governor's, according to a spokesman, though Barbara Duffy reported a $4,789 profit from a consulting business.
Statewide office holders are not required to release their tax filings, but doing so is a longstanding tradition. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli released his last week. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has filed an extension and plans to release his next month.
