Cuomo to accused pols: Deny, resign or face expulsion

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday two assemblymen accused of sexual harassment must deny the charges or resign.

In an unusually harsh statement released late in the day, Cuomo called the accusations repugnant and said “enough is enough. It’s a new year, let’s start with a clean slate.”

The governor referred to assemblymen Micah Kellner (D-Manhattan) and Dennis Gabryszak (D-Buffalo).

The Assembly Ethics and Guidance Committee on Monday found Kellner had violated the chamber’s sexual harassment policy. The committee recommended several measures involving staffing and resources, but didn’t recommend that Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) expel Kellner.

“This pattern of behavior is repugnant by every standard and directly contradicts the policies the Assembly has advanced for the last 20 years,” Cuomo said Tuesday. “The latest reports of sexual harassment in the Assembly should be the last straw.”
