The Cuomo administration continued its multipronged campaign Monday to prevent the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan, Westchester County, from renewing its federal license.

A Cuomo aide wrote to the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission, saying even with upgrades to the aging facility, Entergy, the plant owner, can’t provide adequate safety and evacuation plans for such a densely populated area.

Last week, Cuomo’s State Department objected to relicensing the plant, set along the Hudson River, because its water withdrawals and discharges kill millions of fish larvae and because it sits near seismic faults with an earthquake threat to millions of people.

In contrast, the Democrat governor is opposing Entergy’s plan to shutter its FitzPatrick nuclear plant on Lake Ontario.
