Cuomo uses line-item veto on 184 items

ALBANY -- Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo vetoed 184 items in the state budget Monday, including a $20 million appropriation for upgrading the Stony Brook University football stadium.

The Stony Brook allocation was nixed because it originally was approved years ago to build a biomedicine facility, Cuomo's veto message said.

The appropriation, inserted by the State Senate, was killed "because it changes the purpose of the reappropriation by removing the computational biomedicine visualization and drug development magnet facility at Stony Brook and substituting there for stadium improvement and locker room facilities," the administration said.

Sen. Kenneth LaValle (R-Port Jefferson), for whom the stadium is named, couldn't immediately be reached. A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) didn't immediately return calls.

The governor also nixed six other items because legislators changed the purpose of the original allocation.
