Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo did a sort-of head fake this week by appearing at the New York State Fair.

Cuomo, a few days before the opening of the fair, said he would greet President Barack Obama in Buffalo, when the president kicked off his two-day bus tour of upstate New York and Pennsylvania. Cuomo indicated he wouldn't travel with Obama to the next two stops, Syracuse and Binghamton, in part because he was getting his twin daughters ready to leave for college.

But the governor went to Syracuse anyway, showing up at the State Fair with daughters in tow. State Republican chairman Ed Cox said Cuomo was avoiding anti-natural gas protesters at the last two stops.
