Cuomo watch: Friction over vetoes
It wasn't so much the money as the political scorecard of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's budget vetoes that caught the attention of legislators.
Cuomo, a Democrat, nixed just 12 items sponsored by Senate Republicans, and axed 13 by Assembly Democrats and 99 by Senate Democrats.
The vetoes totaled $640,000, a pittance of the state's $133 billion budget. And, it's worth noting that the vetoes covered a lot of reappropriations from 2009-10, when the Democrats controlled the Senate.
But the tally also underscored the friction between Cuomo and the Senate Democrats, who most recently complained about the governor approving a state redistricting plan backed by Senate Republicans.
