BACKGROUND:
- McDonough, 85, of Merrick, was first elected to the state Assembly in a 2002 special election. He is also running on the Conservative line.
- McDonough chairs the Assembly Minority Task Force on Public Safety, which works with federal agencies on crime and education programs, and is the ranking minority member on the Assembly Transportation Committee.
- He is an associate board member of the New York State chapter of InfraGard, an FBI public-private partnership. He is a past president of the Nassau County Council of Chambers of Commerce and the Merrick Chamber of Commerce.
ISSUES:
- McDonough said that “crime is a big issue” and that he is seeking to repeal the state’s cashless bail law, which he called “turnstile justice.”
- He said that education is his next priority, explaining, “I want to make sure that curriculum is corrected so that it’s not all this woke stuff, and let the parents have a voice in their children’s education that they don’t have now.”
- He said that as a member of the Transportation Committee he is working to improve roadway safety.
