DEAN MURRAY
Republican
BACKGROUND:
- Murray, 58, of East Patchogue, spent seven years representing the third district in the New York State Assembly, from 2010-2012 and again from 2015-2018.
- He also is running on the Conservative line.
- He is safety manager at Jake's 58 Casino Hotel in Islandia and also owns D&S Advertising Inc. He is a graduate of the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland.
ISSUES:
- Murray said he will work to repeal the bail law that prohibits judges from requiring cash bail for other than serious misdemeanors and felonies. Judges should have discretion on whether they can set bail, Murray said.
- He wants the state to invest in career-training programs rather than over-distribute unemployment insurance, as he said was done with additional payments provided in New York during the pandemic.
- On the energy front, Murray said he will work to come up with "logical solutions that will work" and not hurt the economy as the state implements plans to reduce the use of fossil fuels and switch to using renewable energy.
