Democrat Nolan will head November ticket

The Islip Democratic Party nominated incumbent Supervisor Phil Nolan on Thursday night to head its ticket in November's town elections.

Nolan was first elected supervisor in a 2006 special election. Nolan then won his first full term in 2007.

"I lost three times before I won," Nolan reminded around 130 party faithful. He went on to list a string of reforms he said he was proud his administration achieved during "the worst recession in 80 years," urging those gathered to work hard for the "Nolan reform team."

Deputy supervisor Gene Parrington, elected councilman 2007, was nominated for one of two town board positions.

Renee Ortiz, Suffolk County Legislature deputy clerk, is running for councilwoman in her first bid for elected office.

Former state Assemb. Ginny Fields is candidate for town clerk. Fields, who lost her re-election bid in 2010, had been in the assembly since 2004.

The candidate for receiver of taxes is Diane Rossi-Fontana, a 30-year resident of Islip and chairwoman of the West Islip Chamber of Commerce.

Robert Curran will run for district court judge in the Fifth District. Of counsel with Tinari, O'Connell & Osborne, Curran is a courtroom veteran, with 25 years at Siben & Siben where he headed up the largest criminal practice in the county. He is a former Suffolk County assistant district attorney.
