ALBANY -- Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli on Friday became the first statewide official in New York to make his 2010 tax returns available to the press.
The Nassau County resident reported $166,976 in adjusted gross income. That included his state salary of $151,000 and a $12,629 property-tax refund stemming from a tax assessment case won by the Great Neck building where DiNapoli owns a condominium.
A DiNapoli spokeswoman said the tax challenge was launched by his condo association, not the comptroller.
The Democrat gave away about $4,900 to more than 50 charities last year, ranging from $1,308 to St. Aloysius Church in Great Neck to $14 to the Girl Scouts.
Other donations included $325 to Catholic ministries and $200 to the State Employees Federated Appeal. He also gave $25 to the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala.
DiNapoli claimed a $2,850 refund on federal taxes but will pay an additional $580 in state taxes, according to the return.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman are expected to release their tax returns next week.
