BACKGROUND:

• Massa, 64, of East Hampton, has more than three decades of experience in the assessing field.
• She holds a bachelor’s in business economics from SUNY Oneonta, a certified New York State residential appraiser license and IAO designation from the New York State Institute of Assessing Officers.
• She has served as a town assessor since 2000.

ISSUES:

• “I believe the essence of being a good assessor is treating every taxpayer fairly,” Massa said. Her priorities include providing answers and assistance through the assessment, exemptions, grievance and small-claims review processes.
• She also said it’s important to keep up with state and local changes to the Real Property Tax Law that can impact the assessment process, as well as communicating those changes to residents.
• Streamlining the office through technology is another priority, from implementing computerized building structure sketches in the assessment database to using tech to verify existing and new building structures and continuing to digitize assessment records.
