JOHN F. ZOZZARO

Not registered with a party

BACKGROUND:

  • Zozzaro, 51, is a lifelong Glen Cove resident and a 1990 graduate of Glen Cove High School. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from New York Institute of Technology.
  • He owned the Downtown Café in Glen Cove from 2003 to 2022 and currently owns Pizza Company 7, a party and event caterer run out of a Mack fire truck.
  • He is a board member at the Nicholas Pedone Foundation, which provides gift packages, entertainment and financial support for children with cancer.

ISSUES:

  • Zozzaro touts himself not as a politician but as “a small-business owner who feels common sense is lacking everywhere you look when it comes to politics.”
  • He said more elected officials should listen to their fellow neighbors and the electorate instead of imposing the will of a particular political party.
  • He said tax breaks should be left up to the public. “Glen Cove needs more businesses and local job development that will generate more revenue over adding more apartments with Payment in Lieu of taxes (PILOT)” agreements, which compensate local governments for loss of tax base. He said PILOTs “should be put to a vote and have the residents decide if they want to give someone a tax break.”
