Republican

BACKGROUND:

• Maccarone, 33, of Glen Cove, was elected a council member in 2017, lost in 2019 and was elected in 2021. He is seeking a third term.
• He is an attorney at his family’s law firm in Glen Cove.
• He has a bachelor’s in business and information technology and a Juris Doctor law degree.

ISSUES:

• Maccarone said, “The biggest issue facing the city is the need for a downtown facelift to pump some juice into getting Glen Street thriving.”
• He said he was “a driving force” behind the council’s modifying what he called the “archaic” city code for the downtown business area, a move that he said “removed substantial financial barriers to opening a business there.”
• He said that as the city council’s liaison to the recreation board, he has helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for local youth facilities, and that if reelected he would continue to emphasize upgrading those facilities.
