BACKGROUND:
- McElwee, 48, of West Islip, owns Sayville Bait & Tackle, Goody Two-Shoes and The Penny Pub in Bay Shore.
- He ran in a primary for county legislator in 2017 and works as a community liaison for Assemb. Jarett Gandolfo.
- Over the years he has been involved with the Bay Shore Chamber of Commerce, the Bay Shore Business Improvement District, the Bay Shore St. Patrick’s Day parade committee and the Bay Shore Restaurant Committee.
ISSUES:
- McElwee said quality-of-life issues, such as continuing to improve town parks and maintaining infrastructure such as sidewalks and roads, would be a top priority if he is elected.
- He also said he would focus on making the building department more accessible and “user friendly” for town residents, and increasing activity at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma.
- He said there is “definitely a direct correlation between business and government” and that he has learned the “ins and outs” over the years of living and running businesses in the town. He highlighted a commitment to listening to the needs of town residents.
