BACKGROUND:

  • Maragos, 72, of Glen Cove, served two terms — from 2010 to 2017 — as Nassau County comptroller.
  • He founded and served as president and CEO of SDS Financial Technologies, a Manhattan-based financial systems company, and is a former vice president at Chase Manhattan Bank and Citibank.
  • He has an MBA in finance from Pace University.

ISSUES:

  • Maragos said that if elected mayor, he will “fix our city finances to avoid tax increases and layoffs by modernizing operations to reduce costs and eliminate waste.”
  • He said he will seek to “revitalize our downtown by attracting new businesses, young entrepreneurs and arts venues and upgrading our roads, water infrastructure, drainage and the crumbling downtown garages.”
  • He said he wants to “improve our quality of life with enhanced local transportation for seniors, better traffic and parking rules to ease congestion, more youth activities and stronger code enforcement.”
