BACKGROUND:

  • DeRiggi-Whitton, 55, of Glen Cove, is seeking her seventh term.
  • She is a graduate of Hofstra University and is a former senior claims adjuster for State Farm. 
  • She served on the Glen Cove City Council before being elected to the legislature in 2011.

ISSUES:

  • DeRiggi-Whitton said she is focused on environmental initiatives such as the Village of Sea Cliff’s sanitary sewer system expansion and efforts to reopen Crescent Beach.
  • She said she has co-sponsored legislation to require fentanyl-detecting test strips to be bundled with Narcan kits, and a separate measure to permit the distribution of drug deactivation pouches by the county.
  • She said she has advocated for greater transparency from the county in determining how Nassau uses hundreds of millions of dollars received through the COVID-19 stimulus package.
