BACKGROUND:

  • McKevitt, 52, of East Meadow, is seeking his fourth two-year term. He is also running on the Conservative Party line.
  • He represented the state Assembly’s 17th District from 2006 to 2017, and was the Assembly’s minority leader pro tempore. He also served as a deputy town attorney for the Town of Hempstead from 1997-2001 and from 2003-2006.
  • He earned a bachelor’s in social sciences from Hofstra University and a law degree from Hofstra Law School.

ISSUES:

  • McKevitt said he wants to pass a budget that holds the line on taxes. He said he has helped reduce spending and implemented cost controls resulting in budget surpluses to provide tax relief to homeowners.
  • He wants to curtail hate crimes in an effort to reduce quality-of-life crimes and keep neighbors safe.
  • He said he joined county and town officials to stop Gov. Kathy Hochul’s plan to override or limit local zoning control on housing.
