STEPHANIE L. BONTEMPI
Republican
BACKGROUND:
- Bontempi, 57, of Centerport, is seeking a second term.
- Prior to politics, she was a longtime schoolteacher, working most recently in Old Brookville.
- She has a bachelor’s from the University of Hartford and two master’s from LIU Post.
ISSUES:
- Bontempi said she is proud of her first-term accomplishments, including preserving open space in Lloyd Harbor, supporting a bill to close a loophole in the county’s term-limits law and backing a law to set aside housing units for veterans and individuals with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities.
- She opposes Suffolk becoming a “sanctuary county” for migrants and said she wants to be “more active” on the county’s share of funds from opioid lawsuits.
- She opposed putting a sewer/septic referendum on the ballot this year because she disliked the funding formula but said she could support it in the future if the plan is adjusted.
