TRISH BERGIN
Republican
BACKGROUND:
- Bergin, 52, of East Islip, is seeking her second term.
- Previously she served 12 years as an Islip Town Council member. Before entering politics, she was a TV news anchor for News12 and CBS for 20 years.
- She graduated from New York Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s and a master’s.
ISSUES:
- Bergin said she “will fight hard to prevent the influx of thousands of migrants because of the burden they will place on our schools, law enforcement as well as hospitals and housing. Not to mention the increase in taxes.”
- She said she supports a clean-water initiative but voted down the 1/8 cent sales tax increase because, she says, it would benefit mainly individual septic systems mostly on the East End, “instead of much-needed sewers throughout the county.”
- She said she also wants to bring fiscal accountability to Suffolk County Community College.
