KATHEE BURKE-GONZALEZ

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Burke-Gonzalez, 61, has been a member of the town council since 2013 and currently serves as deputy supervisor.
  • She lives in Springs.
  • She has a degree in marketing and management from Siena College and spent 30 years working in advertising. She served for nine years on the Springs Board of Education.

ISSUES:

  • Burke-Gonzalez said she’s running because she is drawn to public service and because of changes in the community. The year-round population has increased while the housing and labor markets tighten among the working class. “These shifts require a change in the way local governments operate,” she said.
  • She supports the “All Hands on Housing” approach to finding solutions to the housing crisis, which she said will help preserve the sense of community. She cited several ongoing projects, including the Three Mile Harbor development and proposed Route 114 Community Housing Project.
  • She also said she’d like to modernize the way town government operates and disseminates information to residents.
