- Carpenter, 79, of West Islip, has been Islip supervisor since 2015.
- Before her tenure in town government, Carpenter was a Suffolk County legislator and the county treasurer.
- She worked in publishing and advertising before starting her political career, co-founding the monthly tabloid West Islip Record in 1986.
- Carpenter said she wants to see projects she started “come to fruition,” including increasing activity at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma.
- Carpenter said she plans to continue to maintain and improve infrastructure like parks, marinas, beaches and roads, citing renovation projects at Byron Lake Park in Oakdale, a bulk-heading project at West Islip Marina and Roberto Clemente and Ross Memorial parks in Brentwood.
- She also emphasized a focus on “trying to keep a lid on the cost of living” and said she wants to “make Islip more business-friendly.”
