BACKGROUND: 

• Reid, 61, of Merrick, is seeking his first term as receiver of taxes. 
• After a career as a New York City paramedic, he worked as a Northwell Health emergency medical services educator and as chief of staff for former State Sen. John Brooks (D-Seaford). Reid has been a Merrick firefighter since 1976.
• He earned an associate degree in technical theater from Nassau Community College.

ISSUES:

• Reid said that if elected he would pursue outreach programs for seniors, veterans and others to educate them about property tax exemptions and the tax grievance process. 
• He said he would review tax rolls to ensure correct administration of programs like the 2% fire insurance tax, which returns a tax on premiums written by out-of-state insurers to local fire services. 
• He said the office needs foreign language and translation capabilities to serve residents who may not be comfortable doing transactions in English.
