CHRISTOPHER J. CARINI

Republican

BACKGROUND:

  • Carini, 48, is seeking his second term on the Hempstead Town Board and is also running on the Conservative line.
  • The Seaford resident is a retired police officer who served with the NYPD, MTA and Port Authority.
  • He has a bachelor’s from C.W. Post.

ISSUES:

  • Carini said that in his four years on the board, annual budgets had either frozen or cut property taxes. He said he would continue to press for tax freezes.
  • He said he formed a town task force focusing on quality-of-life issues such as graffiti and illegal signage. He noted he has also pushed the town to cooperate with Nassau police to shut down illegal massage parlors.
  • He said housing options are needed, especially for seniors and young adults, but that the town needs to preserve local zoning control.
