THOMAS E. MUSCARELLA

Republican

BACKGROUND:

  • Muscarella, 64, of Garden City, is a longtime insurance executive who is now affiliated with the national agency Assured Partners.
  • He is running for his second full term on the town council. He has been involved in community organizations in the district, such as the Sons of Italy American Lodge, Franklin Square Twelve Apostles of the Knights of Columbus and the Franklin Square Lions Club.
  • He graduated from St. John’s University.

ISSUES:

  • Muscarella said quality-of-life issues are among his top concern, “everything from the density of housing to the parks to the UBS Arena, to the Coliseum, law enforcement to taxes.”
  • He said he wants to “hold the line on taxes” to make the district more affordable for residents, noting taxes have been frozen during his four years on the council. He added that the town has a AAA bond rating, indicating good fiscal health.
  • With the planned redevelopment of Belmont Park racetrack, and entertainment events ongoing at UBS Arena in Elmont, he said the town needs to ensure the development of roadways and ample parking.
