PETER J. ZUCKERMAN

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Zuckerman, 55, of East Hills, is seeking his third term after being appointed to fill a vacancy on the town board in 2014.
  • Before that, the real estate attorney was a trustee on the East Hills Village Board since 2003.
  • He graduated from Emory University and New York Law School. He sits on the board of directors for the Roslyn Little League and Roslyn Booster Basketball.

ISSUES:

  • Zuckerman noted that the town board was able to provide a tax cut last year and highlighted that North Hempstead has repeatedly received an Aaa bond rating, the highest a municipality can get from Moody’s Investors Service.
  • He said the town has allocated $40,000 for a flight plan analysis that will examine and seek to address noise pollution from low-flying airplanes. He said he hopes to lead the charge in his next term to address the ongoing issue.
  • Regarding a recent settlement with Nassau County, he said the town has approved money that will go toward sidewalk and streetlight repairs. He also said he wants to expand a program that provides reserved parking for veterans at town parks.
