BACKGROUND:

• DeVito, 75, of South Jamesport, is making her second bid for town supervisor; she ran in 2013. She served from 2006 to 2011 as a Riverhead Central School District Board of Education member; she resigned from the board with one year of her second term remaining.
• She graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor’s in physical anthropology and earned a master’s in public health from the University of Utah.
• She retired as associate director of the LI Occupational and Environmental Health Center at SUNY Stony Brook in 2000. She works part time at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility as a re-entry career counselor. From 2001-2012, she worked as director of workforce development for the Building and Construction Trades Council of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, AFL-CIO.

ISSUES:

• Riverhead needs economic development balance and to become a smart-growth community, to find balance between growth and maintaining the current quality of life, DeVito said. “We can have a vibrant economy without looking like JFK east,” she said.
• She opposes any plan for the Enterprise Park at Calverton that would allow an air cargo jetport.
• She said the town needs to finish its comprehensive plan, which she said remains undone after more than 4 years. Zoning is changing before the plan is in place and she said she would make it a priority to complete the plan.
