Democratic

BACKGROUND

  • Behr, 41, of Plainview, previously ran for Oyster Bay Town Supervisor in 2023. He is a registered Democrat running on the Democratic line.
  • Behr is an attorney who runs a small litigation law firm in Woodbury. He is a former assistant district attorney for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and previously ran his family's small business, Behr's Baby Furniture.
  • Behr has a bachelor of arts in political science from New York University in 2006, and a Juris Doctor degree from Touro Law School in 2009.

ISSUES

  • Behr says he wants to fight against rising incidences of antisemitism and hate in Nassau County through working with schools, faith leaders, law enforcement and community engagement.
  • He also wants to end waste on what he feels are "extreme" policies from the current county executive's office that he believes waste taxpayer dollars, such as the amount that the county spends on outside legal fees. He also wants to reign in spending money on special provisional deputy sheriffs while backfilling county positions such as police detectives, 911 call operators and Department of Social Services staff.
  • Behr said he also wants to provide oversight to make sure that county tax dollars are spent in "an open and transparent way," which he does not believe is happening
