• Nowick, 77, of Saint James, is competing in the Republican primary for a seat on the Smithtown Town Board.

ISSUES

• Nowick said she “believes in preservation,” highlighting how she advocated for preserving a park property and farmland in Smithtown while in the county legislature.
• If reelected, Nowick said, she wants to prioritize the improvement of parks and beaches.
• Nowick said she also wants to make downtowns, including Kings Park, safer for pedestrians to walk. Improvement of foot traffic and the development of sewers in areas such as Smithtown and Kings Park are critical to helping small businesses thrive, Nowick said.
