BACKGROUND:

• Ali, 30, of Elmont, is a deputy Nassau County attorney.
• He graduated from Sewanhaka High School and St. John’s University and its law school.
• He said he established Toys for Eid, a group that collected and distributed toys during the past year for the religious holiday celebrated by Muslims, and helped in other charitable areas.

ISSUES:

• Ali said he would advocate for auditing county government to “eliminate wasteful spending.”
• If elected, he said he planned to work to end hate crimes and promote alternative programs for local youth.
• He said he opposes plans to use county resources to house and care for asylum-seeking migrants.
