New York State Proposition

Proposal One, An Amendment to Protect Against Unequal Treatment

This proposal would protect against unequal treatment based on ethnicity, national origin, age, disability and sex, including gender identity, sexual orientation, reproductive health care, pregnancy and autonomy.

Supporters say the proposition, if approved, would provide constitutional protection to abortion, gay marriage and trans rights laws. Opponents say the measure would diminish parents’ ability to impact their child’s health choices –– such as abortion –– and would threaten youth sports by allowing trans athletes to compete on girls’ high school teams.
