BACKGROUND
- Kopp, of Oakdale, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic and Working Families party lines in the general election. This is her first bid for public office.
- She retired in 2025 after 20 years as an art teacher in the Half Hollow Hills and Brentwood school districts.
- Kopp is a Suffolk County Democratic Committee member.
ISSUES
- Kopp said affordability and the cost of living are top issues, and that if elected she would work to implement universal childcare to help relieve the strain on family budgets.
- She said she supports changes to Tier 5 and Tier 6 state pension benefits to pay union members prevailing wages and would “work to bring good-paying union jobs to projects so people can afford to stay on Long Island.”
- Kopp said she would work to protect the environment, particularly Long Island’s sole source aquifer. As a result of that concern, she said she opposes a proposed Amazon warehouse in Holbrook. “We have to be careful about the stresses we allow on the aquifer,” Kopp said.
