Republican
BACKGROUND
- Mullaney, 51, of Long Beach, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party line. He is seeking a third term.
-
He has been a Marine Corps reservist.
-
Mullaney is a member of the FDNY, where he serves as part of the Special Operations Command in Squad 288 based in Maspeth, Queens, which responds to complex and dangerous emergencies, such as building collapses and subway rescues.
ISSUES
- Mullaney said affordability is a key issue and his priority is keeping taxes in the county low. "If we can keep our taxes flat, that is No.1," he said.
- He said supporting public safety initiatives is another priority. He said cited the county approving a First Responder Zone of Protection Act this year which restricts people from getting within 15 feet of first responders while they're performing duties.
- A key issue in his district, he said, centers on offshore wind development, cables running under his Long Beach district and increasing capacity of the E.F. Barrett plant in neighboring Island Park. He said there are lot of unanswered questions and he's working to get that information to concerned residents.
