BACKGROUND:

  • Hughes, 74, of Southold, is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election.
  • Hughes is a private practicing attorney in Southold from 1997-2015 and 2020 to the present.
  • He was a Town of Southold Town Justice from 2016 to 2019. From 2017 to 2019, he was the justice on the East End Regional intervention court.
  • He was on the Southold Town Board of Ethics from 2007 to 2015 and served as chairman from 2010-2015. He was an assistant district attorney in King County from 1990 to 1997.
  • He received his law degree from St. John’s University School of Law in 1985.
  • He was admitted into the New York State Bar, Second Department, in 1986 and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, in 1988.
