STEVEN C. ENGLEBRIGHT
Democratic
BACKGROUND:
- Englebright, 77, of Setauket, is also running on the Working Families line.
- He was a 30-year member of the state Assembly, where he chaired the Environmental Conservation committee and co-authored the Long Island Pine Barrens Protection Act and the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.
- He’s also a former Suffolk County legislator and teaches part time at Stony Brook University, where he earned a master’s in paleontology and sedimentology.
ISSUES:
- Englebright’s core mission has been protecting the county’s water, and he would work to return a clean-water referendum to the ballot.
- He’d also continue work he did decades ago to ban single-use plastics in the county.
- He would continue to work to conserve open space and champion the use of renewable energy resources.
