Watch our video on Town of Islip election issues

THOMAS E. MURRAY III

Democratic

BACKGROUND:

  • Murray, 36, of Bayport is running for the Islip Town Board. He would represent the 4th District.
  • He is a claims attorney currently working on "cyber and tech errors in admissions policies," and has run for office before. He ran for Islip Town supervisor in 2019 and to represent District 7 in the New York State Assembly in 2018.
  • He obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Richmond in Virginia.

ISSUES:

  • Murray said he decided to run for office because he is frustrated with zoning decisions made by the town in recent years and a lack of transparency.
  • If elected, he said he would call for a hamlet study across the town and for town halls to gauge public interest and priorities.
  • He also said he would focus on the environment by prioritizing greener technology like solar panels and heat pumps on town-owned properties, and helping to shore up Islip beaches.
