BACKGROUND:
- Raia, 55, lives in East Northport. He was elected Huntington Town Clerk in November 2019 and is seeking reelection.
- He previously served as a New York State assemblyman for 17 years, representing the Town of Huntington.
- He graduated from SUNY New Paltz.
ISSUES:
- Raia is responsible for maintaining, securing and filing all of Huntington’s birth, death and marriage records. He has implemented the toughest security measures to ensure their protection while expanding services available online.
- He is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week and said he routinely issues and personally delivers permits, licenses and other documentation handled by his office.
- He said he oversees the only department in Huntington Town Hall to voluntarily reduce its budget each of the past three years, lowering the burden placed on taxpayers.
