BACKGROUND
- Sussman, 27, of Port Jefferson, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election. He switched his party affiliation from Democratic to Republican in early 2025. This is his first bid for public office.
-
Sussman has a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a master’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
-
He is an adjunct professor at Yeshiva University and formerly worked at the Manhattan Institute, a public policy think tank. He also is a member of the Three Village Rotary Club and the Port Jefferson Lions Club.
ISSUES
-
Sussman said he is running on a platform of common sense and that if elected he would tackle affordability issues by introducing legislation for state tax indexation, which automatically adjusts personal income tax brackets for inflation.
-
He said he supports law enforcement and cooperation among law enforcement agencies, and would work to undo bail reform measures.
- Sussman said he would work to transfer the Setauket-Port Jefferson Station Greenway, a 3.4-mile community trail connecting the Three Village and Port Jefferson Station areas, to the Suffolk County Parks Department and take it out of the state Department of Transportation’s hands.
