One of former Sen. Dean Skelos’ last legislative victories could wind up being a state budget highlight for Nassau and Suffolk counties: a $400 million pot of money in the 2015-16 state budget for “transformative” projects, primarily on Long Island.

Empire State Development Corp., the Cuomo administration’s economic-development agency, is still weighing proposals for uses of the money. Additionally, Long Island also is earmarked for a separate $150 million of the state’s share of financial settlements.

Though no timetable has been set, some insiders think the money could be doled out as part of next year’s budget process. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is set to present budget ideas Jan. 13.
