The Suffolk County Attorney's office has a total staff of 117, of which 66 are lawyers, and an annual budget of more than $14 million, according to the 2010 county budget. Lawyers in the office draft legal documents and contracts, review contracts, negotiate leases, defend litigation, bring lawsuits on behalf of the county and make Family Court appearances. The office hires outside counsel for some specialized areas, such as medical malpractice and labor negotiations.
