While both tout their municipal experience, Suffolk Republican Treasurer Angie Carpenter and Democratic Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone committed factual gaffes in their first county executive debate last week.

Carpenter at one point said there were four county health centers; there are nine health centers and two satellite clinics. At another point, Bellone said he'd replace the deputy executive for communications with a deputy executive for economic development. Neither of incumbent Steve Levy's two spokesmen is a deputy county executive. Edward Dumas, former spokesman, became chief deputy but no longer handles press duties. -- Rick Brand
