Final outcome: Assemb. Graf won't run against Lindsay for Suffolk Leg.

Assemb. Al Graf, whom many Suffolk Republicans saw as their best bet for picking off a county legislature seat this fall, has in the end decided against making a race against freshman Legis. William Lindsay.

"My decision's firm," said Graf. GOP officials thought he had crossover appeal because of his stance against Common Core. Despite his decision, Graf said, "Party people are still coming at me. I'm waiting for Sunday to come quick, so I can hide out in Albany."

Legis. Kevin McCaffrey, GOP caucus leader, said Graf had the "most recognized name" but there were four candidates screened and he expected the party to run a vigorous race.
Graf said he has kept his name in contention for one of three Islip district court judgeships but concedes he is a long shot.

There are three district court seats up a one now held by County Executive Steve Bellone appointee Democrat Will Ford who must run to keep his seat, as well as GOP incumbents Steven Lotto, who sources say is unliklely to run again, and Patricia Filiberto, who wants another term. Party sources say Conservative town board member Anthony Senft also wants the GOP nod as well.

Islip GOP chairman Frank Tantone did not return calls for comment Friday.
