Former prosecutor Mark Lesko seeks NY bar admission

Former federal prosecutor Mark Lesko, who has served as Brookhaven town supervisor, may soon be able to practice law in New York.
Lesko, who is admitted to the bar in Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania, took the bar exam in New York last summer. He learned he passed late last year, but still has to undergo an ethics exam in the next two weeks.
He hopes to be admitted to the bar by the summer.
Lesko, 49, of East Setauket, is the new executive director of Hofstra University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and took the exam so he can start a law clinic that concentrates on start-up companies.
While some speculate that Lesko’s move is aimed at reviving his political career — to run for Suffolk district attorney if incumbent Thomas Spota does not seek re-election — Lesko said: “I’m pleased and excited about my opportunity with Hofstra University and that’s all I’m focusing on right now.”
Lesko was Brookhaven’s Democratic supervisor between April 2009 and August 2012. Spota, 74, a Republican-turned-Democrat who was first elected DA in 2001, is in his fourth term, which ends next year.
