Former top court official from Suffolk to head child panel
A. Gail Prudenti, who retired last year as the state’s chief administrative judge, has been appointed chairwoman of the New York State Permanent Judicial Commission on Justice for Children, succeeding the late retired chief Court of Appeals Judge Judith Kaye in that role.
The commission was formed in 1988 to drive improvements in the court system as it affects young people, including those involved in child-welfare proceedings.
Last September Prudenti became executive director of Hofstra University Law School’s Center for Children, Families and the Law. She also serves as special adviser to the school’s dean, Eric Lane. Prudenti has deep professional and personal roots in Suffolk.
