Friday is the last day to register to vote in New York if you want to cast a ballot in November. All statewide offices are up for election this fall, as well as congressional seats.
If you aren’t registered already, you need to act fast if you want to participate. Here are the ways to sign up:
- Go to your county board of elections and register.
- Apply in person at one of the numerous state agencies that participate in registration, such as your local motor vehicles department.
- If you already have a DMV-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, download the voter registration form and submit it through the NYS DMV website.
- Mail your application to your local county board of elections — but it must be postmarked by Oct. 12 and received by Oct. 17.
- Honorably discharged U.S. military personnel can apply in person through Oct. 27.
Election Day is Nov. 6. If you want to cast an absentee ballot, the last day to mail in a request is Oct. 30. But you can apply in person through Nov. 5. For more information, consult the state Board of Elections webpage on voter-registration deadlines.
