From S'hampton attorney to B'khaven top aide
Former Southampton Town Attorney Garrett Swenson is slated to be named this week as the chief of staff to new Brookhaven Supervisor Edward Romaine, high level town sources say.
Swenson, 57, of Brookhaven hamlet has served for two years as Southampton Town’s top lawyer. He also worked seven years in Brookhaven’s town attorney’s office — two years as chief deputy — and 15 years in the Suffolk County attorney’s office.
Romaine said Swenson is under consideration, calling him “a finalist .... in a limited field.” Romaine said he expects to make an appointment by midweek.
Meanwhile, Brian Beedenbender, a former Suffolk County lawmaker and chief of staff to ex-Supervisor Mark Lesko, starts work Monday as the new district office director for Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton).
A Bishop spokesman said Beedenbender’s salary has not yet been set, but his predecessor Lisa Wieber Santeramo, has been making $90,400 a year. Wieber Santeramo is taking a $109,850 a year job with the Bellone administration in the new year.
Bishop said that Beedenbender’s “depth of knowledge ... will be an enormous benefit” to district residents.
